Shit happens and sometimes we can’t control it. Sometimes you miss the train by a few seconds and other times you have to let go of a friend you thought would be in your life forever. Those moments are inconvenient. We’re terrified when they happen, upset the day after and live with regret because of the way we acted or the things we could have done to change the outcome.
Sherene Almjawer knows these feelings all too well. From the moment she was born, literally, Sherene has faced the inconveniences of life, some of them bigger than others. But they combine into this amalgam of regret and fear until she’s forced into self-reflection.
Gum and Life’s Other Inconveniences collects the shit that went on in Sherene’s life, the trivial shit and the traumatizing shit, and packs it all together into one short, satirical, self-deprecating autobiography. Life is inconvenient, but that’s okay. We’ll be okay.
