Featuring An excerpt from "Going to the Airport" |
tonight's Show Tonight's show was fraught with technical difficulties. But, as a result, listeners were treated to an excerpt from Denny Hunte's "Going to the Airport" Denny Hunte was born in Barbados in 1954, the younger son and second eldest of five children. Hunt's family shared a four bedroom house with his paternal grandmother and his father's sister, Aunt Joan, in the village of Ellerton, population around three thousand. Hunte's father was a respected masonry foreman and weekend barber. Hunte's mother raised the five children and took in dressmaking jobs for private clients. Denny Hunte came to Canada with his brother and three sisters in1967, when he was twelve and a half. Hunte has written a series of stories about family village life in Barbados, seen through the eyes of a ten-to-twelve-year-old boy who watches as his parents decide to leave their home to start a new life in a different country. This story was originally broadcast on Life Rattle in July 1994. |
