Hosted by Virginia Ashberry featuring Victoria Martinez reading her story: |
tonight's writer and story Tonight's program features "Tony," a story written by Life Rattle favourite Victoria Martinez, about a young law student’s balancing act as she is tempted by the riches offered by older men. Victoria Martinez, who was born in Manila, Philippines in 1953. She came to Canada in 1988 after a three-year stay in the Sultanate of Oman. Martinez started writing under the rarified pseudonym “Summerfield” when she was still in Manila because it was thought that famous and successful writers are generally products of the upper class. In 2008, one of her stories was short listed by a Filipino Diaspora website. Martinez considered this as her countrymen’s recognition of her writing abilities, something she had always found elusive. Victoria Martinez lives in Toronto and supports her writer self as a legal assistant in a downtown Toronto law firm.
