Hosted by Virginia Ashberry featuring Laurie Kallis reading her story: |
tonight's writer and story Tonight's featured story "In My Head," is from a series of stories written by Laurie Kallis detailing the melt down process of a twenty year marriage. Laurie Kallis was born in Hamilton, in 1963, and raised as an only child. Her family moved and lived in various locations around Toronto, then Mississauga and Etobicoke. Kallis left school when she was sixteen and worked an office job at a transport company. Kallis had her first son at 18, married, then had her second son at 27. Kallis returned to school in 1995 to study art. She graduated from the Art and Art History Program at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College. Now divorced, and her sons grown, Kallis moved to Hamilton in 2008, where she intends to focus on art making and storytelling. So, to support her compulsion to make art, Kallis has worked as an art instructor, writer, editor, website developer, landscape designer and managing director of Life Rattle. A long term theme of her art work has been the precarious coexistence of displaced humans and nature. At Life Rattle, Kallis helps other storytellers polish their words and find an audience.
