Hosted by Virginia Ashberry featuring Diane Donaghy reading her story |
tonight's Show Tonight, Life Rattle Number 1217 features a new story from Life Rattle alumnae Diane Donaghy. Diane Donaghy was born in Toronto Ontario in 1956. An only child, she grew up in the area of Toronto now known as “Leslieville.” Her dad was a real estate salesman who went on to start his own business. Her mother was a stay-at-home mom, till she began working as her dad’s secretary when Donaghy was ten and ended up his business partner. The family lived at the same house until Donaghy was sixteen, when they moved to east Scarborough. At that point Donaghy ventured out on her own with a friend, and dropped out of school after grade eleven. She worked many different jobs and partied with friends all through the 70s and 80s. Donaghy landed a job at a major telecommunications company in 1988 and remained there for twenty years before outsourcing hit. Donaghy went back to school and is currently in the Social Work field. Last week we were very excited to bring you three stories from Diane Donaghy, written back when she was known as Diane Tiley. Those stories were first heard on Life Rattle in 1988, the year the show began. It was a treat to hear Arnie Achtman’s voice again. Arnie’s obvious respect and appreciation for Diane’s writing was evident in his introduction remarks. So, we were thrilled when Diane sought out Life Rattle a couple of months ago, with the new story you will hear tonight. Last week you heard stories from Diane’s childhood and teens. Tonight she tells us of her adventures in young adulthood. |
